Grytviken ( / ˈɡrɪtviːkən / GRIT-vee-kən Norwegian: [ˈɡɾŷːtviːkn̩]) is a hamlet on South Georgia in the South Atlantic and formerly a whaling station and the largest settlement on the island. It is located at the head of King Edward Cove within the larger Cumberland East Bay, considered the best harbour on the island. [1]

The villa continued to be the centre of management at Grytviken until whaling ceased in 1964. The building was then dormant for over twenty years until it was converted into a museum and opened to the public in 1992. The museum displays are arranged around the ground floor and you can explore the rooms below. The South Georgia Museum today.
